Items of Note
This juried exhibition will be displayed at the Downtown Art Center (DAC), 1041 Nu’uanu Avenue, 2nd Floor Gallery. Additionally, companion online exposure of the exhibit will be at this wewbsite and at www.downtownarthi.org.
This show will be for water soluble media including transparent watercolor, gouache, casein, acrylics, water-soluble crayons, and water-soluble pencils.
The exhibition will include an invited group of ceramic artists. Ceramic art will not be juried.

HWS Membership
If you are not currently a member of the Hawai’i Watercolor Society, you may join before submitting your entries to the show. The annual membership fee is $40 dollars per year. Gary Tucker – Juror
Gary started to make art his life path while still in high school under life-long mentor Anita Fahs. Eventually, Gary was drawn east to Boston where he met Professor Kaji Aso at the SMFA. Professor Aso introduced Eastern aesthetics, Calligraphy and Sumi painting. Gary graduated to the media of watercolor and found he could achieve more subtlety, power, and expressiveness in his painting.
"Through the media of watercolor and my process of painting, I find power through brushwork, and subtlety through transparency." "Watercolor differs from other media in that there is a performance aspect to it. The fine pieces come out in one sitting and very often like a classic performance, something happens, a fusion of mind and subject, an improvisation that cannot be duplicated" - Gary Tucker
Member: $14 per Exhibit entry.
Non-Member: $20 per Exhibit entry.

Sitting Fees: Please do not pay sitting fees until you are notified that you have been selected for the show.
Each artist will be responsible for covering three 3.5 hour shifts at DAC during the Exhibit. Due to the spaciousness of the gallery space, we must have 2 persons sitting each shift. Artists will get credit for one of their shifts by inviting one person who is not exhibiting in the Exhibit to sit the Exhibit with them. A sign-up sheet will be available for scheduling purposes. If you are unable or unwilling to sit in the gallery for your shifts and need HWS to find someone to cover your shifts, you will need to pay HWS $30 per shift for fulfilling your sit obligation as exhibiting artist.
