Hawai`i Watercolor Society

 

The Hawai`i Watercolor Society was founded in 1962 by Hawai`i Artist Hon Chew Hee. Our aim as an organization is to nurture and stimulate interest in water media through education, exhibits, and collaboration with other organizations, associations and individuals.

The Hawai`i Watercolor Society sponsors two juried exhibits every year as well as a biennial curated show highlighting the work of our signature members. In addition, we host periodic sales, themed shows and community events.

In conjunction with our exhibits we offer two week long workshops each year featuring nationally recognized teaching artists. On an intermittent basis we sponsor shorter duration workshops on a variety of art-related topics.

 

Membership Information

Membership in the Hawai`i Watercolor Society is a great way to enhance your painting experiences through meeting fellow artists, having your work recognized and exhibited, and broadening your skill set by participating in our workshops. Membership benefits include:

  • An annual roster of all members
  • A list of local shops that provide special rates or discounts
  • A monthly newsletter highlighting future events, including painting opportunities with other artists
  • Opportunities to participate in HWS-sponsored workshops with nationally and internationally recognized artist/teachers
  • Opportunities to enter juried shows and other exhibits sponsored by HWS
  • Access to an extensive library of instructional DVDs produced by nationally recognized artists and instructors
  • Annual meeting and party the Sunday after Thanksgiving to gather in a festive setting

We also offer Signature Membership status to recognize our active members who achieve a high degree of excellence using water-based media. This designation is based on points received in juried competition. Details for earning Signature status are contained in the HWS By-Laws.

International Membership - $50/year
International Life Member (10+ consecutive years) - $45/year
Life Members (10+ consecutive years) - $35/year
Student (18+ years of age and proof of enrollment in accredited college, not to exceed four consecutive years) -  $25/year
